Empirical Bayes, Multiple Comparisons, and False Discovery Rates

Bradley Efron

Technology drives theory in most areas of science, and statistics is no exception. The advent of high-throughput biomedical devices such as microarrays has revived two important areas of statistical research: empirical Bayes analysis and multiple comparisons. These two areas meet in an interesting way in the Benjamini-Hochberg theory of False Discovery Rates.
