Title: The scope of multiple comparisons according to J. W. Tukey
Abstract: In his last piece of work, an entry on Multiple Comparisons written jointly with Jones and Lewis for the Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences, a very wide scope was sketched for the field of multiple comparisons. I shall review the wide panorama described there, and emphasize two topics rarely associated with the field of multiple comparisons: model selection and random effects models. I shall discuss these two using examples from the area of behavioral genetics.
